Аннотация: | Objective of the study was to identify the interests and motives of students for physical culture and sports activities during school and extracurricular time. Methods and structure of the study. The scientific work was attended by 354 students (1st-3rd year) of the Nizhny Tagil State Social and Pedagogical Institute, Nizhnevartovsk State University and the branch of the Tyumen Industrial University in the city of Nizhnevartovsk. During the research, questionnaires were used, including a total of 16 questions related to clarifying the attitude and preferences of students to physical culture and sports within the classroom and outside of class. The age of the respondents ranged from 17 to 23 years. Results and conclusions. The results of the survey indicate that the formation of motivation for physical culture and sports is possible only by increasing the physical education of students in practical issues of using various means and methods of maintaining health, achieving an understanding that physical culture is an integral part of the general culture of a modern specialist. Also, the survey data indicate that students do not have a clear idea of the value and targets of physical culture and sports. It is necessary to provide students with a wide range of choices of types and forms of physical culture and sports activities, taking into account their personal interests and motor abilities. © 2023, Teoriya i praktika fizicheskoy kul'tury i sporta.
